Major Time!

The 1st DRM Golf Major will Tee-off at Pantai Mentiri this weekend. Prime contender a.k.a Captain Medz will not be playing due to unknown injury. Nonetheless, the field will still be very competitive to claim the bragging rights to be crowned as the 1st DRM Major Winner of 2009.

Main suspect to win the title would probably the "Man-in-form", Hj Khairur who won his 1st DRM Golf title last February.
His closest rivalry in the order of merit challenger to compete for the glory would probably be Rafali, consistently claiming prize money to claim his spot for the inaugural Battle of the Bridge end of the year.

One of the surprise package during this Major would have to be the emergence of Romeo Wee, who have been out of action since last year. The sudden inclusion have risen few eyebrows! Lets see how he will prevail.

BSP Corporate Golf Tournament Update

(DRM NEWS NETWORK, PANAGA): DRM's resident Pro Rafali & his young padawans achieved a shock result this morning on the links styled Panaga Golf Course by taking Team OS into second place in the BSP Corporate Golf Tournament, narrowly losing out to three-in-a-row champions BLNG. Young Padawan Kher Wee & Za'iem continued their good golf form by posting in scores that would add to the eventual OS total team score.

Another notable achievement was Serial's score of 39 stableford points which was good enough to take him to 2nd spot in the overall individual category. After a woeful round at RBGCC last week, he was definitely keen to prove a point to his doubters. A respectable 91 gross certainly goes along way to banishing those 110+ scores of late!

Lord of The Putt Sani playing for team HP endured a miserable day however, after a late night playing host at his daughter's wedding gambus at home. His trademark monster drives were no where to be seen, with only his uncanny knack for navigating Panaga's low bunkers with his putter saving him from further blues.

Pg Woody also had a slice of bad luck well before the sirens for the shotgun start went off, when he suffered a tyre puncture on the Muara-Tutong Highway. Drawing on all the man-skills he could muster, he went about the tyre change in double quick time, managing to just about make the opening tee-off! (Though this DNN reporter did spot him being ferried to his opening hole on the PGC buggy!!)

DRM was well represented this morning, with 12 players in total representing their various departmental/asset teams. In no particular order they were;

Aidiradiman Takes Home DRM Challenge Trophy!!

(DRM NEWS NETWORK, BSB): There were a number of serious contender's for this morning's DRM August Monthly Medal held at the testy RBGCC course in Jerudong, but only one man came out tops. The man in question just happens to be one of DRM's founding fathers and his impressive record of 2 wins in 3 tournaments played over the past 2 years has everyone else in the DRM Tour thanking their socks off that he hasn't been able to feature as a permanent fixture due to work commitments outside Brunei (he's currently 'on loan' working on Shell's mega-project in Sakhalin, Russia).

When asked what his winning strategy was, he simply had this to say, "I had the advantage of playing on the same course last week with Hj Jaafar and Rahim, where i played well, and so i was quietly confident coming into this morning's tourney."

Aidi's nett score of 79 was actually a three way tie with DRM Resident Pro, Rafali and DRM's big buaya, Pg Shamhary, but pipped the two for top honours by virtue of a score countback, with his par on the 18th hole ensuring that he'd be bringing that DRM trophy on with him to Russia.

Also posting an impressive score was a DRM junior golfer, Young Kher Wee, elder brother of Brunei's teen-golf sensation, Young Tat Wee, posting a nett score that was enough for him to take 6th spot in the DRM category.

When DNN tried securing a post-tournament interview, the DRM Captain was no where to be found, and so we'll have to reserve the announcement for the venue for the next DRM monthly medal and the 2nd round of the DRM's Captain Trophy to another day!

Pictures from the prize presentation & an interview with the Asian Tour Pro, Rav Gaganjeet who featured in this morning's DRM monthly medal will be posted by end of the weekend!

Real Deal Lifts His 1st Ever DRM Challenge Trophy!

"It's taken me three years to finally get here!!!", those were the words of an overjoyed man finally getting his hands on the DRM Challenge Trophy. Rafali 'The Real Deal' took home top honours playing a very impressive 85 gross (74 nett) on a picture perfect day at the RBGCC course in Jerudong, on a day when many whimpered and folded in the heat and jungle humidity.

In what turned out to be the slimmest of leads into the finishing hole, the Real Deal came out trumps ahead of Johnny 'No Balls' Han and Faizan Ghani by just the one stroke, finally proving to all his undoubted pedigree and golfing talent.

Saturday's medal tournament also turned out to be one of the biggest ever attended DRM event, as 44 golfers tee-ed off in some 12 flights all vye-ing for the impressive array of trophies at stake. The kudos having to go to our two excellent hosts for the event, Pg Arrifin and Pg Suhaimi for making this an event to remember.

Hj Jaafar Bakar, also stunned the group by carding a round of 94 gross (72 nett) which was actually the morning's best score, to come in 1st place pipping a sizeable group of single digit handicappers in the Invitational category.

One last thing to note. Wasn't the Nasi Lemak wrapped in banana leaf served for lunch the best?!?! I'm definitely going back for seconds!

A very good turnout during DRM National's Day tournament despite the Public Holiday. Thank you for all DRMers and guest players for making it a memorable event.

Pantai Mentiri Golf Club's soggy fairway has created more challenges than usual (looking for their balls in 6 feet under). Despite that all players has shown great enthusiasm in playing their best. Well unlucky for the last flight for only finishing 16 out of 18 holes but salute to them for tying.

It was fun to see Brunei flag's theme as a few players are showing their patriotism to their country. G-Khai won the best dress with his red cap, yellow shirt, white sleeves and black pants.

2008 season for DRM golf has kicked off in RBA on the 26th January 2008 with a bang with a great participation from fellow DRMers. A great start to a great year ahead.

Asmadi scored a nett of 72 to win the initial tournament of the year. Behing him the captain and Swee Meng.

It is worth to mention that AmirS (who plays golf only twice per year without practice) has manage to finish the game with a par in his hand (pun baik last inda apa lah). Asking if he wants to be a pro......."Nah....." what a waste of talent!!!!

Greetings from the Captain,,,,,,,,,,,,

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone once again a happy, prosperous and joyful year 2008! I also wanted to take this opportunity to welcome our new DRM Golfers Association (DRMGA) members!

2007 was again another great year for DRM Golf. DRMGA has slowly and surely became a 'known' name in Tour competitions in Brunei Darussalam. This was evidenced by the notable increase in invited guests participation in our Tour events throughout 2007 season. Bravo and congratulations to all because this high level acceptance would not have happened without everyone's contribution. Keep up the excellent efforts. Lets give DRM Golf another huge bang in 2008 among the golfing community in Brunei Darusslaam.

With great pleasure, I attached herewith, our DRM 2008 Tour Calendar.

A few changes/improvements to the 2008 DRM Tour are:

1. Two new venues are included; Kelab Golf Miri (KGM) and Empire Golf & Country Club (depending on our negotiation on green fees).
2. Our organization of the 2008 Tour and the qualification for the end of year Battle of the Bridges will be changed slightly.
3. A new individual matchplay competition vying for the Captain's Challenge Trophy is introduced. Details are explained below.
4. Members handicap will be revised based on 2007 performance. Handicap software will be bought and a newly revised handicap based on the software will be effective by April 2008 (to be used effectively by our first Major _ DRM Pantai Mentiri Masters).

In near future, interview need to be taken seriously. So far interview with Captain G-Rahim precisely transparent & emotional (World class example):

"Apa interview2, ce mani saja, biartah kamu main sendiri2 hari enam atu, aku main hari minggu sajalah, faham2lah. Tahun Depan kitani pakai software handicap, dari US ku beli, mana tahan buaya di sana sini, dari mana dorang datang indaku tau. Bah atu saja."

M Oil Dealer spills Glory in B.L.O.G

Since joining DRM this season, M Oil Dealer have shown consistency on claiming prize money in most of the DRM Tour participated. His existence in the Top 12 of the DRM ranking have proven his quality to challenge for the inaugural title of BOTB at the end of the year.

His recent win in the July Classic of the B.L.O.G (Brunei League of Golfpunks) is another warning to all DRM players.

Can anyone stop him? Will he be the next BOTB Winner?

Serial Champ! But Real Deal on Top!

Another great turn out, with almost 40 players participated DRM Golf 18th Monthly Medal held in RBA Golf Club last Saturday.

It was a great day for golf, with the kind weather boosting Serial’s attempt to get his name on the DRM Golf Challenge Trophy for the second time.

His superb low scoring game in recent weeks proves that it was not a fluke. Playing with a great gross score of 93 (Nett score 66) outclassed everyone on the field with the Real Deal trailing close with 2 strokes.
With that win, Serial managed to scoop $DRM 956,000 and boost his position to 15th place. This will be a good stepping-stone for him to challenge for the Top 12 and qualify automatically for the Battle of the Bridge.

On another note, Real Deal took the opportunity of both Gold Tee and the Freak missing the cut to claim any prize money. RD showed his true golfing skills and claimed the 2nd spot in the tour and simultaneously took over the pole position in DRM Ranking.

Looking forward for the great participation on our next tour. (Tentatively planned at Eastwood Golf and Country Club Miri on the 16th of July 2007)

The DRM Golf 18th Monthly Medal Tour will be held in RBA Golf Club this Saturday. This will hopefully prepare all the DRM golfers for the upcoming challenge given to them from other golf team which include: BEBE, HMM, SCM and others.
The season has gone unpredictable this year with each month producing different Champion compared to last year. This has shown the fighting spirit of each golfer to prove their ability and compete to be in the inaugural Battle Of The Bridge Tour.
Half of the season gone, our current Prize Money leader is The Gold Tee, followed by the Freak and the Real Deal. The rest of the pack are still eyeing to catch the leader with only 5 months to play before BOTB in December.

All will be eyeing at the DRM Major Trophy currently residing with Pg “Joker” Ali.

In spite of the exhausting DRM/F1 Malaysian Golf Tour, the DRM Golfers journey towards the Battle of the Bridge 2007 still linger in their mind.

This Saturday’s DRM Golf 16th Monthly Medal Tour will field approximately over 30 players. The competition will be tough considering the venue to be played is at the ROYAL BRUNEI GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, Jerudong.

Historically, none of the DRM Golfer has actually really dominated this challenging course. Past DRM Champions: Captain Coach, Serial, Prodigy and the Recruit are all playing this Saturday, hoping that their lightning strikes again.

A lot will be up for grab at this tour, DRM Golf captain have announced to the Board of Directors on the following prizes to be awarded:

DRM Golfers: Sleepless in KL

DRM 1st Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia gave the team a great awakening! It was a two days event involving DRM, F1 Golfers and Malaysia (Shell, Petronas and contractors).

Day 1 (DRM vs. F1 Golfers)

Last encounter in Brunei, DRM lost 1 point due to a misjudge putt by DRM’s Mad Cat. DRM were trying to even the score and try to grab the inaugural Challenge Trophy.
Playing in the unfamiliar Glenmarie Golf Course, both teams did not show any sign of jitters.

Due to insufficient DRM golfers, Gold Tee has to recruit two of his brothers to strengthen the DRM squad. Involvement of both players gave confidence to the DRM golfers of winning the Challenge Trophy.

Gold Family Affair!
All the DRM prizes (TOP 3) were scooped by the Gold Tees Family; showing no mercy to the rest of the field.

In spite of the dominance, the team event was really close!
Format of the event was STABLEFORD SYSTEM 36 and the best TOP 10 scores count.
It was tied after 10 scores….
Tied after 11 scores…
Tied after 12 scores…
13th player from each team to decide… DRM 13th ranked player is Mad Cat (another burden to be decided).
Overall results (TOP 13): DRM Golfers lost 5 points to F1 Golfers.

We will redeem in our return match with F1 Golfers. (Time and Place to be confirmed)

Day 2 (F1 Golfers/DRM Golfers vs. Malaysian Golfers)

Fatigue and sleepless night for the Bruneian Golfers (F1 & DRM) made the golf tour a challenging match. After driving almost 2hrs from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca, the Bruneian Golfers reached the A Famosa Golf and Country Club without any fear to the ‘fresh’ Malaysians.

Still using the STABLEFORD SYSTEM 36 but modified (lowest handicap count), Bruneian golfer gave a good fight that day.
Scooping several novelties: Nearest to the pin and the Long Drive Challenge.
Nonetheless, the Malaysian snatched the Challenge Trophy putting their winning streak to 9 Years straight!
Based on the TOP 15 scores, Malaysian won 496 to 479.
Proud to say: “Seven of DRM Players contributed to the TOP 15”

To conclude the report, on behalf of DRM Golf Captain: We would like to thank our colleague at F1 Golfers for the invitation and for the whole arrangement on both days. It was a brilliant two days and hope we will have more matches between both teams….and we will get that Challenge Trophy soon!

Appreciation also includes the DRM Golf Captain for the success of DRM Golf 1st Tour in Malaysia.

Finally, the great applause should be given to both DRM Golfers and F1 Golfers involved on that day. In spite of the results, everyone had FUN!

Silent but Deadly!

LOTP, Gold Tee, Freak nor the Real Deal got their hands on the DRM Golf Challenge Trophy.

The 2007 season shocker has not yet ended! First it was Pg Woody winning with an amazing 10-under in RBA. Now it’s the emerging of a new species: The Baby Faced Assassin playing an outstanding 6-under (nett 64) in Panaga Golf Club.

In spite of that, Mr HLD long hitter also playing with a nett score of 64 won the overall nett strokeplay.

DRM Golfers Top 10 summaries:

Baby Faced Assassin killing off every golfers dream of grabbing the DRM Golf Challenge Trophy in his debut return of 2007

Freak was left gobsmacked, nonetheless produced an excellent performance with a gross score of 86.
The Mad Cat shared 2nd place with the Freak grabbing $DRM 504,000.

Capt Coach produced a consistent good score snatching 4th spot on his own.

Pg Red Knights ran out of juice only able to claim 5th spot.

The Serial is another player to watch in 2007. On any given day, he can shoot a crazy score that can rattle anyone’s confidence.

The Loan Shark still lurks in the Top 10, still determined not to go away.

Bulldozer, Gold Tee Maniac and Ilan Jeev Milka Singh tied at 8th spot grabbing $DRM 70,000 each.

Other DRM Golfers highlights:

Pg Woody, Hard Core Killer and Gold Buaya produced a good consistent game but not enough to squeeze them into the Top 10 spot.

Pg Twister and Smiley who recently showed good form was burnt out in the Panaga heat.

Local Heroes: Real Deal and the Lord of the Putt were favourites that did not manage to perform that day.

Two DRM golfers (Venezuelan Slugger and the Chinese Mafia) that have been missing in action for several weeks have return empty handed but have shown that they will be back for more!

Victory At Last!

DRM golfers shows their true fighting spirit by edging SCM by ONE points to win the DRM/SCM Tour. It took the 13th player to break the tie amongst DRM and SCM after equaling in points on that day. DRM lucky 13 was the M Oil Man, contributing the victory with his 32 points.

In spite the absence of Gold Tee, Real Deal, LOTP and the Fairway Artist, overall DRM Golfers showed a great performance in RBA that day. The golfers played all their heart out to prove that they could beat SCM without their 2006 Top players.

Flat tire!
Nothing can stop the Mad Cat from turning up in the tour. He had a slight set back when he encountered a pothole on the road causing him to delay his tee-off due to flat tire. The Freak managed to save the day and rescued him in Kupang (where he almost got lost in the process). Pictures will be posted soon.

Game Day Summary:
Wonder Kid won the overall individual event AGAIN, completing his back-to-back victory. Will he continue his streak? We will see this coming Saturday, where he will enter the tour as an entry for his eligibility for the DRM Tour’s Prize Money.

El-Nino, a late entry for that day managed to scoop the biggest prize money due to the ineligibility of the Wonder Kid.

Twister still showing his fiery form is able to claim the runner up spot.

The Recruit, Wizard and the Freak shared 1st runner up with a prize money of DRM$506,667 each.

Gold Buaya earned his 1st Top 10-prize money in the DRM Tour to kick start his season for a place in 2007 BOTB.

Smiley’s 2007 season started considerably well, sharing 7th spot with the Loan Shark and M Oil Man.

Last but not least to scoop the Top 10 prize money is Pg Woody, still determined not to miss out on this year’s BOTB.
Rest of the field played considerably well, displaying respectable scores giving pressures to all SCM players. Performance of ALL DRM Golfers that day have widen the eyes of most golfers about the existence of DRM GOLF and what they are capable of accomplishing.

The time has come! DRM will try to avenge their lost during the last DRM/SCM Friendly Tour in August 2006. It was a very tight duel, SCM edged DRM by just 2 points (DRM: 343 and SCM: 345). That match produced a controversial issue when the Mad Cat did not play for DRM with his great form that caused DRM to lose the valuable points.
In spite of that, this Saturday expect to be a challenging encounter. Both team currently tied in the head to head glory, will try to be the 1st to claim the early lead on grabbing the inaugural Challenge Trophy sponsored by Hj Musa (currently a DRM regular).

DRM will field the following players:
1) The Coach – will lead the field seeking for 1st 2007 DRM Team win
2) Twister – currently in a HOT streak playing sub 90s recently

Freak Major Come Back

Last year’s DRM Golf Prize Money leader have officially kick start his 2007 Season by claiming a win in DRM 1st Major of 2007.

The 30-year-old Bruneian, who started the season with an abysmal result and missing the cut on the 1st DRM Tour of 2007 proved everyone that he is still in his prime.

He has now completed his task on aiming to join the list of players who have previously won the DRM Majors: Gold Buaya and the Pg Joker Ali.

He also joined the Lord of the Putt on equaling the record of winning the DRM Golf Challenge Trophy three times.

Inspite not winning the BOTB 2006, the only story that really counted yesterday at the Eastwood Valley course was the Freak Show, grabbing FOUR Trophies: DRM Golf Major, DRM Golf Challenge Trophy, DRM Golf Nett Winner and 1st Runner Up in the DRM-BEBE Tour.

The DRM-BEBE Tour Summary:

Faiz Damit, another DRM “Wonder Kid” produced an excellent result with a gross score of 76 claims the overall Winner for the DRM-BEBE Tour.
The Real Deal scooped the Runner Up of the overall DRM-BEBE Tour.
Despite having 3 DRM Golfers in the Top 3 of the overall score was not sufficient to beat BEBE Team Score of 1092 to DRM 1115 (based on Top 15 Lowest Scores).

DRM Golf Major/14th Monthly Medal Summary:

Real Deal have started the season very well being in the top 10 in two games in a row, also claiming the Runner Up in the DRM Major yesterday.

Pg Woody proved his critics that his win on the last DRM Monthly Medal was not a fluke by winning 1st Runner Up with his new and revised handicap.

The Gold Tee, Wizard and the Tanker Dealer claimed a share of 2nd Runner Up to scoop a prize money of DRM$966,667 each.

The last chunked of prize money was equally distributed amongst the Loan Shark, Lexus Mafia, Mad Cat and the Recruit for claiming a the 7th spot.

Wood Weekend

Both Tiger Wood and DRM Pg Woody won the Buick Invitational and DRM 13th Monthly Medal respectively

Pg Woody won the title in a dramatic score of 10 under leaving his closest challenger 6 strokes adrift.
He came in the tour as an underdog, not giving any sign of threat to the other title contenders.

Whilst other DRM golfers were concentrating to focus on beating LOTP and the Recruit, he just smiled his way to easy victory.

Other winners were also:
Gold Tee, not a stranger to all, only managed to claimed runner up. In spite of good performance, playing two under, he was denied of claiming the 1st title of the year.

The Loan Shark, have started his 2007 season with a phenomenal comeback, trying to prove to everyone that 2006 was just a small glitch in his golfing career.

The Wizard also managed to scoop 4th spot, also still trying to seek for his 1st DRM Title in his belt.

DRM invitational also played really well (results shown below), good turnout from them has given the season opener a new taste of what’s in store for 2007.

Welcome to the new season of DRM Golf Tour.

The new captain, Coach have shown good initiative on releasing schedule of events for the whole of 2007.
Welcoming notes to newcomers and emphasizing on DRM’s motto was also included in his introduction.

Will we see any new changes under his management? Only time will tell.

The 1st Tour will kick-off next Saturday (27th January 2007), seems attracting a lot of players. All eager to compete and get their head start on claiming the honour.

So lets get geared up for 2007 season and hopefully someone can stop the Lord of the Putt.

Note: This Article was written before LOTP had his heart attack and is currently in KB Hospital, hope he recovers soon.

Jerudong, Brunei - the Freak was in his focus mind of winning BOTB when he awoke at 5:00 a.m. that Saturday in December 2006 only to watch the LOTP to steal it from him.

What he saw that morning brought equal doses of awe and reality.

Freak had spent countless hours working on his game, driven by the dream of being No. 1 in DRM. On the green that morning was 48-year-old Lord of the Putt becoming the oldest (But Young Inside) DRM 2006 Champion.

"I thought it was unreal," Freak said.

And it didn't take long for him to recognize that his dream might be just that.

Freak will show up at RBA for the start of the 2007 season with his game as good as it has ever been. He found consistency to go with that polished swing, rose to a career-high No. 1 in the DRM 2006 Money list ranking and captured two DRM Monthly Medal Championship to finish a career-best No. 5 on the DRM BOTB TOUR.

The final few steps, though, seem like a marathon.

"All this time, I dreamt of being No. 1 in DRM," Freak said "How am I going to live up that dream? I've got to somehow figure out a way to play better than this guy over a pretty long period of time. I don't think I'm making up ground on him, but at least I'm creeping up to a level that's competitive."

Then he paused, and finished the sentence with a smile.

"On a good day."

That's not giving up. That's reality.

"It's unfortunate for us that we've probably got the best putter of all time that we have to be better than to be No. 1 in DRM," Gold Buaya said.

"But we're also fortunate to be playing in his generation. We're all better because of him. The tournaments are better, there's more people to play in front of."

Gold Buaya broke through in a major way last year, winning the EastWood Tour- 1st DRM Major Championship. He finished sixth on the money list despite only able to take the 8th spot in the DRM BOTB TOUR.

Long considered one of the greatest achiever in PGC division “D”, his goal was always to be the best, figuring the No. 1 DRM ranking would come along with that. And now?
"I still have aspirations to be No. 1," said GB, now at No. 8. "I think it's feasible. Is it feasible when he's having a run like he's having now? I don't know."

Wizard already has won in two DRM Sponsored Cup, Freak's two victories in the DRM Monthly Medal, Gold Tee also won twice last year and grabbed the tour's best nett golfer and Gold
Buaya’s credential on winning his 1st DRM Major in 2006.

All of them have solid credentials, weakened only by comparisons to Lord of the Putt.

"The hardest thing now is for DRM Golfers to realize this LOTP benchmark is out of most everyone's league," Freak said.

"I think it's a hard thing for us to find out when he face him. I certainly found out it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."

But he hasn't given up a dream nurtured since joining DRM.

"You can't give up on your hope of being No. 1 in DRM," Freak said.
"I want to be No. 1, and I believe I can be. But I've got to be realistic. If I play my best golf in the next five months, then I might be No. 1. If. Maybe. And it depends on what he (LOTP) does. But it's five months away for me."

Another pause, another smile.

"Maybe I'll catch him between swing changes or if he lost his putter," Freak said

Lord Of DRM Golf

LOTP disappointment at missing out on the DRM Order of Merit title was eased on Saturday when he was named the tour's # 1 Golfer of the Year after winning the DRM Battle of the Bridge Tour.

The Freak pipped him in the Order of Merit race but only manage to claim the fifth spot on the final day of BOTB.

The Lord, on the other hand, was determined to win in RBGCC, was able to come out top and edged out the Recruit by 1 stroke. It was a tough battle for both contestants after seeing the lead change several times.

The Gold Tee Maniac (Best Nett of the year) and Wizard both also shows good fighting spirit and climbed 3rd and 4th place respectively.

Real Deal who is still struggling with his current form also able to grabbed 6th spot, 6 strokes behind the Freak.

Great rivalry between the Mad Cat and Gold Buaya come to an end, after both shared same nett scores BUT Mad Cat outclassed GB on count back.

Most Improved Player of 2006 – the Coach also edged the Fairway Artist on count back scooping the 9th and 10th place respectively.

Twister produced another abysmal result dragging him down to 11th place, whilst the Serial who was determined to claim the middle spot nailed his 12th spot position. In spite producing Shot of the Day on hole 12 (teeing off Happy Gilmore style) and claiming one novelty prize (nearest to the pin on Hole 3), he finished the day with a gross score of 141 (What happened dude?)

"It is a tremendous honour to be named DRM Tour Golfer of the Year," said LOTP.

"To win three times in 2006, Best Gross of the Year and claim the #1 DRM player of the year before finishing runner-up to the Freak in the Order of Merit was extremely satisfying, although it goes without saying that next year will be a different story.
"The race for the number one position with the Freak, Recruit and the Wizard was truly exceptional and, I believe, fired the imagination of the golfing status in DRM Tour”. Added LOTP

Nonetheless everyone showed gutsy performance on that day and deserved to be given a round of applause for a magnificent ending to the year 2006 season.

Hopefully 2007 will be another good year for DRM Golf under new management of The Coach Pg Ahmad Sufrizan. More Tour and more New DRM Players joining us still relishing our motto “Playing For Fun!”

Lord of the Putt moves into BOTB lead

LOTP will take a one-shot lead into the final round at Augusta of Asia (RBGCC).

The well above 40-year-old Bruneian, who won DRM Tour 3 times this year, bogeyed the last to fall back few strokes but then watched as his closest rivals also faltered.

Playing with LOTP in the last pairing will be the Recruit - the winner has come from the final group every year since 1990 in PGA Augusta Masters Tour, Will it repeat itself in DRM Tour too?

Either man would be a popular and worthy winner.

Recruit, the 12th DRM Monthly Medal Champion, has never missed a cut in Prize Money if entering the tour, while LOTP, who won his third title at RBA this season, has had several top-five finishes in most of his DRM Tour appearances.
But with 12 players, including the rest of golf's "big five", within four shots of the lead it will not be easy.

Alongside the Recruit, the Freak and the Wizard, who posted a nett score of 86 and 90 respectively, will also try to stop the LOTP.

The Real Deal and Gold Tee Maniac would be forgiven for wondering how they are not playing in the same group as LOTP for the second straight round, but with their new-relaxed (side-bet) approach to golf they are probably not too upset.

The Mad Cat was in excellent shape coming in the tour. But he then was probably too relax whilst playing with his sunglasses through 18 holes.

The Serial showed great character by not giving up and determination not to stay long at the last spot. The Coach also produced some memorable rookie debut by showing his existence in the 12-men group.

Gold Buaya was on fire when playing his practice round on Wednesday, but struggled on the day, dropping a lot of shots to go 11th of the table.
The Fairway Artist back showed a good bounce, as he moved up the ladder and put an attempt to stop the LOTP, only shy of 11 strokes. He will be paired with the Twister, who sang his way down after struggling on most of his shot in RBA.

BOTB camp follower, Loan Shark and Pg Woody showed a classy performance with scores enough to challenge the leader and proved everyone how they deserved to be part of the tour. On the other hand, Smiley is still struggling to find his iron swing.

When asked about the significance of playing in the final group at RBGCC on Saturday, LOTP said: "I didn't give it much credence yesterday, but now I am leading I like that stat. Just wait and see this Saturday ...hope everybody will give a good fight. That is my main aim”. He smiled.

DRM Golfers set for Battle of the Bridge

Each DRM golfers will be aiming to claim the first ever title of DRM #1 Player of the Year.

The Freak, who topped the DRM money list in 2006 is also a first for DRM history record, is one of players involved in this event.
The 12-man field includes Terengganus's Gold Tee Maniac as well as eleven local Bruneieans.

"I am READY FOR THIS!" said the Coach.

"The more experienced long hitter will no doubt have the edge, and we will also look at up-and-coming players to shine in the tour with their enthusiasm and skill." Comments from the Freak.

This year, the competition has a more formal qualification format as the DRM Board of Directors now sanctions the event.

Eight members of the field were selected based on their ranking and season earnings while there were 4 wild card spot grabbed through tough qualifying round.

Kuala Belaits's Real Deal is another player determined to avenge his poor run of form by aiming to outscore the rest in this tour.

"This tour I will try my best to score below 80," he said.

"I know I am facing a strong opposition such as: LOTP, Gold Tee and Gold Buaya but if I found my form back, we will have a good contest."

The tournament starts this Saturday 16th December at the Royal Brunei Airline Golf Club and concluding on the 23rd of December 2006 at Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club, Jerudong.

The DRM Golf Battle of the Bridge will soon be teeing off this Saturday with a lot of pre-match hypes and mind game exploded amongst BOTB players. The Battle opts to be the tour of the year, where each player will be aiming to be crowned the BEST DRM GOLFER of 2006.

1) The Twister sacrificing to play for BOTB instead of seeing off his children fly off oversea
2) The Wizard seen practicing ALONE in PGC, followed by self After Action Review in the driving range ALONE

4) The Real Deal predicted the following as big contender: LOTP, Gold Tee and Gold Buaya, probably as reverse psychology that he too will be the man to watch. After confessing that he will be determining to play sub 80s in RBA and RBGCC.

6) The Recruit played a practice round of 99 at RBA, gave warning to the field that he can play from any tee box

It was a nerve wrecking day for the 7 players needing to qualify for the BOTB last Saturday.

End of the day…..

Real Deal, Coach, Serial and Mr. 101 won themselves a spot for the inaugural 2-days DRM BOTB Tour in December.

All seven players deserved to be applause for their great effort and determination on that day. It will be a day to remember, for those who qualified and vice versa. It can also just be a reminder to every DRM Golfer: It’s not easy to win in the DRM Tour!

Smiling Shocker in RBA

Man in-form, Smiley finished the day with an abysmal gross score of 112, missing out 4 strokes from the wild card spot behind his closest rival Serial.

"I just don’t know what happened today, I lost all my hitting power,” said Smiley.

Serial not in his full potential on that day managed to grabbed the final spot for the BOTB. His ability to execute consistent regulation play scared the Freak but his putt was the real culprit.

The Loan Shark and Mr. Woody were another duo that missed the cut due to inconsistent scores. Both scoring 118 and 112 respectively, can only hope that their form will improve for the new 2007 season.

Panaga Riot?

All 3 Panaga qualifiers will finally get to play on the BOTB Tour after claiming a full spot at the Qualifying tour Stage.

"There were 7 great players here this week and to qualify the BOTB from a field of that quality is a very great achievement,” comment from the Coach.

A nervous, final round of 112 was enough for the Coach to claim 3rd place on that day. Real Deal and Mr. 101, two of the favorite to qualify, proved their voters right for earning their deserved spots.

Here's a practice drill that's used by many teachers, with a modification that makes this version very effective.

Lay a damp towel just on the green and hit chips that land on the towel and end up within a club-length of the hole. Dampening the towel not only keeps it from blowing away in breezy conditions, it also more realistically reproduces how the ball reacts on landing.

Hitting the towel will also tell you if your trajectory is correct.

Move around the green and change clubs depending on the lie and the distance to the hole.

Who will qualify to play for the DRM Golf 2-days Grand Finale BOTB this coming December?

Seven players have confirmed their participation for the qualifying round, trying to put their names in the DRM history to play in the Battle of the Bridge and battled out for two days aimed to be the DRM Golf Player of the Year.

Seven players involved for this Saturday qualifying tour:
1) Smiley Khai (America’s Next Top Model), man in-form who missed the last DRM 12th Monthly Medal will want to prove himself that he deserve to be in the BOTB.

2) Serial Renny also missed out the last tour due to work commitment is determined to beat his close rival (Smiley). His previous DRM win at RBGCC will boost his confidence for the BOTB if he gets through the qualifying round.

3) Fairway Artist (Mr 101) Rahim, one of DRM co-founder will be aiming to get in the BOTB mainly to face his main nemesis Gold Buaya aka Tiger Wood “D”.

4) Pg Woody Shamhary, will kick anyone once his woods start to fire up.

5) Real Deal Rafali has been out of shape this past few weeks, just missing out the cut after failing to perform in RBGCC. He will be playing in his favourite course (PGC) for the qualifying round.

6) Hj Loan Shark Rahim, bad mojo have exorcist his golf career since joining DRM Golf Tour. Hopefully he will be in good shape for this upcoming qualifying round.

7) Last but not to forget, Pg the Coach Ahmad, in his rookie season will be trying his best to overcome his nerve to reach the final stage of the season.

Prodigy and Recruit emerge victorious

Rookie Prodigy Lai held his nerve to win the season-ending DRM 12th Monthly Medal Overall by two shots in RBGCC, Jerudong, on Saturday.

The Prodigy carded 2 birdies and 10 pars to earn his place for next years spot in the DRM Golf Tour.

Red Knights Board of Director, Ang Swee Meng, who closed to within two shots, ended with a nett score of 80 for second place.

The highlights of the day….
The pre BOTB Tour $3.0M event featured a starting field of 30 that was trimmed to 28 after withdrawal of the Serial and Abdullah Nawi was a tight battle for everyone.

The Recruit, determined since joining the DRM Tour finally produced one of his best game ever, scoring a nett score of 81 and scooping the inaugural DRM Champion.
And the Recruit became the first golfer to trail the field by a wide margin (12 strokes). With the win he automatically confirmed his spot for the upcoming BOTB.

Recruit outclassed the DRM field scoring 1 birdie and 4 pars enough to put his name on the DRM Challenge Trophy. His closest rival on that day was Mad Cat, scoring a nett score of 94, also managed to confirm his spot for the BOTB this December.

"He deserved this title, and he has almost won the tour several time but it seems today was his day" Mad Cat said.

"This is just the perfect way to end a great first year for me on tour, and confirm my spot for the BOTB" recruit quoted after the game.

Real Deal and the Gold Tee Maniac got a smacked in the face and woken up to reality, after producing their worst results of the year. GT who only managed to produce ONE par on that day was forced to eat his word (after self declaring his handicap to 4) after finishing with a nett score of 96.

Fairway Artist (Mr 101) returned after a long spell of rest also managed to scoop some prize money in the DRM Top 10 but not enough to clinch an automatic spot for the BOTB. Satisfied with his performance, he outclassed his rivals Gold Buaya and Hardcore Hitter.

The Coach also shared his winning with DRM Baby Faced Assasin (Amy) tied on 9th place. Both will feature in this Saturday’s qualifying round for BOTB.

Prize Money List Leaderboard was also finalized on that day (see below), with the Golf Freak taking advantage of the absence of LOTP and taking back the Number 1 spot for prize Money ranking of the season.

GT declares ready for battle

The Terengganuian, fired a final-round 83 for the day to snatch the SEN/CONTRACTOR Tour last Saturday.

It was GT's second victory in two weeks in a row that has shaken DRM number one LOTP who played one of his abnormal game ousting a 66 gross score at the Empire Golf Club’s front nine.
Other DRM players who participated on that day was RD, Ilan Jeev and the tactician.

GT began his wonderful hot form after winning the Panaga November Division B Monthly Medal and elegantly showed everyone when he managed to play 36 at PGC front 9 prior to the tour.

GT is also confident on his chances on the upcoming DRM Battle of the Bridges. He even self declared his DRM handicap to 4 (which is currently 6)

"Latest news, I will again be entering HSBC 'World' Tour Championship this week. At my tip top drive condition, I believe will again easily 'ngap' the humongous championship trophy. After that, we will take tournament break till BOTB at Jerudong/Mentiri/Eastwood/Panaga/KGM where ever not to be worried.

DRM Golden Boys shine in PGC

DRM Golf duo Gold Tee Maniac and Gold Buaya scooped another victory outside DRM Tour last Sunday.

GT unsurprisingly won the PGC Division ‘B’ Champion trophy with an excellent nett score of 69. Despite the long fasting break, GT have shown his tremendous determination to grab the BOTB title to prove to everyone on his golf excellence.

GB, well known for his ability to hustle using his high PGC handicap, deservedly won the Division “D” runner up trophy. He showed his consistencies by finishing with a nett score of 71.

Other DRM Golfers playing on that day were:
Real Deal, still not awakened from the long golf break produced one of his abysmal golf career resulting with a nett score of 86.

Ilan ‘Jeev Milka Singh”, played one of his best game with a satisfying nett score of 76, just shy of 6 strokes to beat GB.

LOTP, 3 times DRM Champion still struggling to find his magic putting strokes can only finish with a nett score of 76, not enough to challenge the field on the day.

Last but not least, the Golf Freak outclassed by the heat and loss of form, was struggling on every shots only managed to end with a nett score of 74.

Tiger Woods often talks about getting 'width' on the backswing. The proper extension of the left arm is a source of power because it helps create a wide arc to the swing.

While this can be great advice, the problem is, many players apply this advice incorrectly and extend themselves into trouble. The left arm goes wide, but the body center stays at home. This disconnect leads to poor arm location on the backswing, excessive tension in the left arm and limited body coil. People think they're doing something good when they have an over-extended, rigid left arm, but what they're doing is losing all naturalness in the swing.

Keep a feeling of softness in the left arm as you swing the club back. This feeling will help you hinge your wrists. The left arm is the radius of your swing. Your shoulders, arm and hands should coil in sync. Be careful not to let that left arm over-extend or work independently, and thus change the setup radius of your swing.

Road to THE BATTLE OF THE BRIDGES

With almost 4 events remaining until THE BATTLE OF THE BRIDGES Championship, the 12-man field is starting to take shape. Players occupying positions Nos. 1-8 on the list have pretty much made their game plans for that tour. However, for the rest of the players, it will be a push to see who can get those last few spots in the field. Either pushing himself into the top 8 position or entering via the qualifying round to get the FOUR wild card spots (planned end of November this year).

After the festive season presents a unique opportunity as there is possibility of dual events being contested. The DRM-SCM Tour in RBA, HMM hosts DRM rematch tour? Or even the 12th DRM Golf Monthly Medal. Playing on favourite soil, Smiley or Mad Cat, who both have shine on the DRM TOUR, could move into the top 8 with a win in the next upcoming tour. Also from this field, Fairway Artist and Pg Woody -- currently 12th and 13th respectively on the money list -- could make a big move in the standings.

BATTLE OF THE BRIDGES – to be played in DECEMBER 2006

To be played amongst 12 Top DRM Golf Players in 2006 Season (Camp followers are very welcome to join too), will outwit each other in a grueling 2 days nett strokeplay format tournament (based on DRM Handicap).
Winner will be crowned DRM GOLF 2006 CHAMPION OF THE YEAR.

Venue of the tournament will be played: DAY 1 (Panaga Golf Club or Pantai Mentiri Golf Club) and DAY 2 (selection between RBA,Empire or Eastwood Golf Club).

DRM Ryder Cup 2006 - EUROPE Dominate

Amid unprecedented scenes of raw emotion, Europe won a second consecutive Ryder Cup.

Last year, it was just a mini DRM Ryder Cup between the Freak and Smiley (Team EUROPE) against Fairway Artist and Nigeria bound DRMer Andy (Team USA).

This Year, it’s a battle waiting to explode, Smiley’s Team bizarre singles pairing to deliver a crushing victory over the United States with rookie sensation Serial holing the winning putt moments against the Loan Shark after Freak’s win against Twister on the 16th hole ensured Europe retained the cup.

Smiley will go down in history as one of the great European Captains after inspiring 9 great players to a sensational victory.
“That’s 12 months of hard work and it’s all come down to winning this for a second time,” said Smiley. “The guys have played fantastic. And for the Freak to win was an incredible feeling for him, for me and for all the team and we all know why (history of slump after Holland-trip).”

The Recruit once again led from the front with a final hole win over Mad Cat in the top match, maintaining their great rivalry among each other.

Charles Goy, rarely beaten, was crushed by an inspired Wizard who birdied hole 8 and ending up with a 1 up victory. LOTP put another point on the board for the Americans with a win over Smiley, ensuring the DRM Number One his pride and honour. But the only other two victories for the United States came right in the last group where Ilangovan, aided by a par on the 16th, got the better of the Coach and the tight match between Gold Buaya and Ong Heng Kee.

Freak missed out - LOTP climbed up

With the Freak gone out of action for almost 2 weeks, LOTP and the rest of the leaderboard took the opportunity to close the gap.

LOTP benefit the most on the freak's absence, winning the number one spot amongst the DRM Tour golfers. He scooped a total prize money of $538,000 in the DRM/HMM Tour, enough to claim the number ONE spot in the DRM leaderboard.

Big chunk of prize money were also collected/shared in the DRM/HMM Tour between 3 winningless big gun: the Wizard, Twister and Mad Cat. Yet to win their honour in the DRM Challenge trophy, they played a great golf game whole of this year and only time will tell for their moment to come.

Welcome to the Millionaire Club! ... the Coach have finally joined the list of players who are in the Millionaire Club after scooping $34,000 in the recent HMM Tour.

DRM Golf News is back.....

16th September 2006, DRM played a friendly golf match with HMM (Haji Malai Mashor) and did the unthinkable by beating them. HMM defeat placed a blemish in their undefeated long string of win against recognised opponent such as: BLNG, PU, BSP, etc.

DRM- 266 points and HMM-256 points.
Hopefully,this outstanding performance showed by DRM Golfers can boost their confidence level for the upcoming DRM vs SCM after the festive season.

GB finds glory outside DRM Tour

Gold Buaya claimed his fame as a runner up in front of his home fans in the Adinin Trophy Tour at Panaga Golf Club on Sunday.

The 2006 DRM Master Champion closed with a four-under 67 that day.

Fellow DRM Lord of the Putt finished 14 shot back, in spite of his good performance the day before.

Also on that mark was DRM Real Deal who cannot convert his putt, also ending up with 10 over for the day.

"It is great to win in my home ground. I have great support up here so this is a wee bit more special than my other wins this year, but the DRM Monthly Medal Title is still in my target list" said GB.

"I am obviously in a good position with the DRM ranking, but I don't know if its good enough to keep me in the automatic Battle of the Bridges spot. "I love to win, so I am going to keep pushing. We have HM 60th Birthday Tour this week and that is a course I love and hopefully I will play in the SCM/DRM Tour too."

Tribute to the Coach – 2007 DRM Golf Captain

Previously known as the Tactician/Techno; the (Coach) have gone through several phase of golf swing and equipment changes.
His persistent and full commitment has shocked the DRM players by scooping the DRM 4th Monthly Medal in the inaugural difficult RBGCC course on the 25th February 2006.
Since then, the Coach has pushed his limit on trying to search for the optimum solution to progress further. He concurred to several Golf professionals’ advice, which includes: Aaron Johnston (played in the recent Brunei Open 2006).

Most DRM golfers praise him on his excellence in applying theoretical strategy on his golf game.

Currently, the Coach have rise his game a step higher, breaking his personal best consistently since the DRM Major in Pantai Mentiri. He is playing regular sub-110 on every game nowadays.
Confirmed to be the DRM Most Improved Player, chopping his DRM handicap from 36 to 19 within a period of 9 months. The Coach still insists on perfecting his golf skill; practicing almost 200 balls a day on the driving range.

DRM 11th Monthly Medal
Coach played with two debutants; Your Highness and D-tripod enjoyed their golf outing. Your Highness has also been caught practicing with the Coach on one occasion. Apparently, sources from DRM Golf Nut, confirmed YH is the apprentice of the Coach. YH have praised on the Coach performance that day, “ Ahmad best le…. He drives well and play good recovery shots too…”

Coach comment on debutants – “Great... I think Dedy has good ball striking... if he keeps playing with DRM, he can be one of those players to watch. Youhanez has shown great potential and endurance.. don't judge him of his numbers now...judge him in a couple of month's time”

Fairway Artist – Back in Action

Mr Fairway Artist did not participate the DRM Championship in Pantai Mentiri. FA was pinned down due to the arrival of his beloved wife from the United Kingdom. Mainly busy with some unfinished business, he missed several chances to get back at the top rank.

Currently sitting at 11th place, FA is being overtaken by a lot of rising stars.
Main rivals (Mad Dog, the Recruit and Gold Buaya) were relieved on his absence, all chasing for the automatic Battle of the Bridges spot.

Misfortune on improving his rank has happened several times since DRM Masters in EastWood (Miri); food poisoning at DRM 9th Monthly Medal, car problems during the DRM-F1 Tour, out of action in the DRM – SCM Tour and even missing out on the DRM 2nd Major of the year.

DRM 11th Monthly Medal
FA did a great comeback, considering his lay off from golf for several months; FA shot a good gross score of 103 – 2 shots shy on his normal game. FA produced 4 pars in the process and managed to be in the Top 10 finish for the day.

Lord of the Putt – Trilogy completed

First win – 2nd DRM Monthly Medal in Royal Brunei Airline Golf Club, he showed his sign of finesse by outclassing the field with a gross score of 86. On the spot, he was given a DRM handicap of 10 (lowest amongst all DRM players at that time).
Henceforth, LOTP have struggled to capture any winnings after grabbing the title. Inspite of that, he managed to be the leader on DRM ranking for almost 3 months straight.

Second win – 9th DRM Monthly Medal in Empire, prior winning this title, LOTP putted his way through several acknowledged sponsored tournament scooping several trophies. Playing with full of confidence, he snatched the 9th DRM Monthly Medal easily with a gross score of 98.
10th DRM Monthly Medal almost wraps up his 3rd title, but it was not meant to be. The Golf Freak put a halt on his glorious streak by sneaking away with a one-stroke lead from the LOTP to win the Challenge trophy.

Finally – Third win – 11th DRM Monthly Medal in Panaga Golf Club, again the Golf Freak tried to snatch the title from him. But LOTP produced his magical stride and confidently executes his 10-foot championship putt to glory. Ending the day with a gross score of 83 (nett 76), defying his closest competitor one stroke behind him (…what a good sweet awakening given to the freak).
He outclassed the field when he started of with 4 straight pars from the 1st tee off, completing the day with 9 pars. LOTP showed a flawless performance and deserved to be crown the DRM Champion on that day, quoted “…it was merely pure good day, pairing and excellent putt… even tipped my colleagues on how to do my putt… but winning this one is so sweet!”

3rd time lucky? I guess not, LOTP showed everyone that he is still the man to beat!

Nonetheless, the field had a great game last Saturday. A lot of self satisfaction can be seen, albeit from debutants to the winning champion putt, the rest of the field have also showed an outstanding performance.

The DRM tour continues its journey on another venue - PANAGA GOLF CLUB. All still trying to improve their current rank in the leaderboard, appearance of players for tomorrow’s event is very convincing.

All eyes are on the following players:
Real Deal – playing on home course, expect a good smacking from him
Mad Cat – his new-found grip and new driver shaft have given him all the confidence in the world
LOTP – this is his holy putting ground
Serial – still in his prime game, dare to bet against him?
Smiley – killer driver could kill off the rest
Your Highness – his debut game, making of a new Buaya?
D Dude – also a new debutant for this season,

Serial on Cloud 9 – Smiley sky-high glow

The sun has shunned on DRM upcoming star, Serial. He has shown a great recent run of golf performance. Already won the 8th Monthly Medal Tour on the challenging RBGCC and have been in great shape since then.

Serial also quote “..nowadays, to play double or 7 is no go for me, PAR and Birdies…yeah baby!!…. Next target, the RECRUIT!”
After the superb performance last Saturday, he leaped his way to 9th place in the DRM rank.

Smiley Khai (14th place) is also closing down on the others with his flawless score of 93. His first breaking 100 mark have given him more than smile, a sigh of relief and bright glow can be seen from his face after the game.
No comments from him were needed, since his lovely smile speaks louder than word.

Both were the big movers in the DRM rank list, in spite of GT winning the DRM honour.

The other two critical changes would be on Gold Buaya and Mr 101 – Fairway Artist, both suffered a major blow and dropping the places on every tour. GB (6th place) and Mr 101 (11th place) can only hope the others join their way.

GT claims Gold again… but not spotlight

“Surprise? That’s an understatement..” GT was confident of getting the honour. He have acknowledge himself as the King of DRM Tour Earning per game.

His rival Real Deal was playing in the same pairing with GT quoted prior the game,
“Yes he's playing the same level I”m playing now.....if not better....hehe...don’t tell this to Gold T.....he's the player to watch in DRM at the moment.....his drives are huge these days....outdriven me on many occasions.....if he continues to play like the way he is now...i think the Freak’s position right at the top of the money list is a threat!!!”

BUT…

That special day was not focused on GT.
Two DRM Dark Horses has galloped their way to stardom at the finish line.
Serial and Smiley both shocked the field even the likes of GT and RD. Both played an outstanding 93 (Smiley) and 96 (Serial). Scores enough to beat the field and engrave their names to the DRM Monthly Medal Tour Challenge Trophy.

Consistencies shown by both golfers have not been left unnoticed by anyone seems to boost their confidence more to another level up.
Both were seen celebrating after the tour and seems to be enjoying themselves on their strings of success. (More insides on this in the future)

Mad Dog crushed DRM for SCM revenge hunt

MD stole another DRM Golf headline, but for a different cause. SCM who is looking for a revenge to beat DRM after the first DRM/SCM tour was won by DRM.

This time SCM was not taking the DRM team for granted, fielding a quality players. Including pinching MD from DRM to strengthen their team.
MD full of extra psychotic energy in him played his SCM role and managed to be in the SCM Top 10 players and outscored DRM: 345 to 343.

Credit not to be taken to both DRM and SCM Golfers who played a good golf that day.

Mad Dog seeks late Top 8 rank push

Mad Dog has not given up hope of winning a place in the Top 8 for Battle of the Bridge at end of year.

The Tutong-born has just four months to force his way into an automatic top-8 place.

"I just want to show everyone I'm playing really good," he said. "In fact, I am playing really, really, damn good. Especially with my newly-found golf grip"

MD will compete in the DRM vs. SCM Tour in RBA this Saturday before playing in the DRM 11th Monthly Medal in September.

The 31-year-old is currently 10th in the standings after finishing tied sixth in the DRM Championship this month, his first top-10 finish in a DRM major.

"I should have finished a lot higher, but at least that tells me I can definitely win a major," said MD, who was a member of FD’s winning BSP Corporate Cup team in 2005 and 2006.

Smiley claims best smile major result

Smiley Khai shot 90 at the DRM Major to claim fifth place at Pantai Mentiri.

The Serusop lad best previous result in a major had been the 10th place at the DRM Masters in East Wood.

The 29-year-old, who climbed to 16th place on the DRM ranking last week, outscored the Top 8 players in the DRM major such as: the Wizard, Twister and even DRM own Gold Buaya.

“AMAZING! …Ahakz!!” stunned by his own performance, Smiley admits his strong motivation was just to gain some extra prize money and not to let his rival (Serial) to prowl away with a big lead.

And his strong finish at Pantai Mentiri will have done his hopes of earning a Top 8 finish berth December no harm at all.

Wizard not done yet

Still my head is shaking in disbelief at the climax to the DRM Championship.

Our critics had correctly pointed out that there is always a defining moment, and surely it would be the double par the Wizard carded at the (407m Par 4) 15th hole.

Before the Championship Day, I remember thinking: "This is it!" At last, Wizard glory after months of near misses and a succession of failed challenges in 9 DRM Monthly Medals.

Well, we all know what happened and it's prompted plenty of responses. Terengganu-born Gold Tee, now residing in the Miri, (perhaps harshly) has disowned the Wizard - "Wizard is like Sergio Garcia," he says.

Smiley Khai in Serusop reckons that "he appeared more frightened of losing than wanting to win". And Holland-based Aidiradiman was "astonished" to see the DRM Championship trophy remain in Brunei-Muara (the “Joker” Pg Ali’s district).

Personally, I'm reluctant to write off the Wizard - he is a one-off who defies all logic and never ceases to find a way to bounce back.

Take his current schedule - he's on an eleven-week solid run of golf. Every other DRM Golfers would consider that absurd, yet it's working for him.

He's more likely to smoke Marlboro Light on the course than eat banana or energy drinks used by his peers and his time on the range is regular during a tournament.

For many players it would be impossible to recover from the sort of disappointment the Wizard inflicted on himself at Pantai Mentiri.

But it wouldn't surprise me if he were to return all the stronger - after all, he has now finished Champion in two of the DRM Cups, which makes him one of the top men in the game at the moment.

The proper sequence of motion in going from backward to forward is a dynamic all good athletes have. Whether it's used to make a tennis stroke, baseball or golf swing, this power move begins from the ground up. It allows you to transfer the energy created with coil and torque going back into a powerful move going forward.

Most golfers unwind from the head down--the classic over-the-top slicer's swing that robs you of power. To ingrain the correct sequence, practice raising your left foot before you swing to the top. As you complete your windup, feel as if you're already 'stepping into' your swing. It's a double-directional move that promotes a better weight shift, helps brace your legs as you change direction, and encourages you to begin the downswing with your lower body.

The Golf Freak still leads the pack, showing his consistency in scoring helped him build his foundation to stay on top. Recent scores of 89,91,93,93,91 and another 92 in the Major boost his confidence level to strive for more glory.

TLOP, getting stronger every tournament has not missed out on any prize money since he missed the cut in the DRM Masters in Eastwood. His tied 2nd placed amongst DRM golfers in the Championship moved him up behind the leader. Knocking out the GT Maniac to 3rd spot, will definitely woken up the GT to gain back his honour.

Another big climber, the Real Deal moved from 15th to 8th place. RD is now confirmed to show his best golf for the remaining of the season, tempting to give the G Freak a run for his money (or golf balls for that matters).

The Wizard, Gold Buaya, Recruit and Twister are the non-movers in the Top 8 list. All still aims to get their names on the DRM Challenge Trophy. Everyone will try their best to stop GT, Freak and TLOP to engrave their 3rd name on the challenge trophy.
Great performance by Serial, Smiley Khai and Mad Dog warns everyone not to write them off yet. Serial played a flawless 44 on the challenging long back 9 of PMGC, Smiley created a lot of par chances playing alongside RD and Mad Dog still maintaining his consistency on shooting low 100s.

Major Surprise! No Freaking Joke!

Real Deal, Lord of the Putt, Gold Tee Maniac, Smiley Face Khai etc… the DRM critics and punters were all over them. They captured most of the DRM Golf headlines due to their superiority in every individual aspect.

Championship Day…

Nail biting moment, most flights were already finished in the clubhouse. Committees were busy collecting and calculating everyone’s score. Waiting for the last flight to arrive, everyone have their own assumption and expectation.
At last! The last flight arrived, the ‘Venezuelan Slugger” Hilarion happily hand his card, with a sigh of relief that the long day was over. “Serial” Dzairenny opened the eyes of everyone, scoring 44 on his back 9, but fatigue caused the “Serial” to shoot 60 on the front 9 and finishing with a great gross of 104.

Finally, the last man to give his scorecard! DRM own marshal matter Pg “Joker” Ali, shocked the field by scoring 100 gross, playing with a DRM handicap of 19, the “Joker” deservedly won the DRM Championship.

DRM 10th Monthly Medal

It was a nerve wrecking shock for the “Golf Freak”, Fadle never would have thought getting even close to the Top 5 finish in Pantai Mentiri Golf Club. Prior, to his arrival to the clubhouse, it was a very tight finishes between the favorites: Real Deal and the Lord of the Putt, both closing out with an 86 nett scores.

With a lot of luck on his side, the freak managed to beat the odd by outclassing the field with an 83 nett score. The Freak also played a great golf game with his newly found sidekick that made all the difference. His golf game starts on hole 6, where he started a string of 3 pars including 1 birdie on the par 5, hole 8.
Back 9, he played a totally different game. Fatigue and pressure of the long yardage compared to the front 9, forced him just to play safe and try to scramble a few string of bogeys.

Lastly, when it really matters, he used all his “Magic Freak” on the 18th hole: A good rare long drive, great 2nd shot with his wood to place just before the pond. Going for the green on his 3rd shot, “Sidekick” Adnan gave advise on club selection, fortunately placed the ball near the green (almost OB). With pressure mounting, managed a delicate 4th shot chip into the green, leaving a 2-foot putt.
Completing it with a 1 putt to get his last par of the day and winning the DRM 10th Monthly Medal.

For better Grip Check your V's

Hold the club more in the fingers, not the palm

Of all the fundamentals, the grip is perhaps the most important. A good grip is essential to controlling the clubface. Show me a player with a bad grip, and I'll show you one having difficulty hitting the ball solidly and accurately.

One of the most common grip errors I see with amateurs at my golf schools is resting the club too much in the palm of the left hand (for right-handed players). Gripping the club in that way makes it difficult to hinge it on the backswing and release it on the through-swing.

The handle of the club should rest diagonally across the left fingers. Be sure to grip it firmly between the heel pad and last three fingers of the left hand to provide support throughout the swing. As the hand closes over the club, the left thumb should rest on the right side of the shaft, forming an upside-down 'V' with the forefinger that points between the player's chin and right shoulder. This provides a wide 'corridor' for personalizing your grip. For a draw, the 'V' should point more toward your right shoulder.

RD wins Major?

Smooth swing, long drive, and precision putt ... the real deal has it all. But is this enough for him to win the Pantai Major?

Real Deal performance so far in the DRM tour has been disappointing, especially if he's playing away from his home course (Panaga Golf Club).
But luck is now on his side for the Pantai Major. His lucky charm will be in the form of the "loan Shark". Why the "loan shark" you ask??

Well here's why ...
Previous winners in the DRM Tour were all in the same flight as the Loan Shark. This is proven.
Aizul won the Eastwood Masters with LS in his flight.
LOTP Sani won DRM 9th Monthly medal with LS in his flight.
The unthinkable win of the "Serial" at the difficult RBGCC. Guess who was in the same flight as him. You guess it ... the "loan shark".

So lets analyze the flight arrangement for RD at the Pantai Majors:
Hj Rahim (Loan Shark), Rafali (Real Deal) & Hj Khairur (Hardcore Smily face).
The odds of "Smily Face" to win this major is low, considering his record of high miss cut during DRM Tour.
But do NOT write him off yet, just look what happen to "Serial" at Jerudong. There's always an element of surprise in the game of golf.
But the odds of RD to win Pantai Major are very high. I've got an odd feeling that the "Lucky Charm" of the Loan Shark will produce its magic once again.

So ask yourself again.... is RD going to win the Major?

GT Maniac Major Break

Gold Tee Maniac, Kamal B decides to skip the DRM Championship and spend his time with his son who is celebrating his birthday that same day.

Calculatedly, he is assured of his place in the DRM rank will not be threaten. He even knows the DRM Leader, “Golf Freak”(Fadle), cannot survive the grim of Pantai Mentiri. The Freak has not missed any DRM tour so far, that GT sarcasticly labelled him as the “Unrestable Vijay”.

He also ravishingly commented on his absence “…to give others chance to stay near to me before I run again.... hahhahahah...”

GT on the Real Deal

GT have complimented RD a lot since playing golf with each other on several practice rounds in PGC. GT surprisingly gave a rare positive remark on RD for the Championship.

“What’s his name? Get real?… whatever… anyways he has the right way of winning it, his swing is beautiful, he has the ability to spin the ball, to fade, to draw, to bite etc... in other words, he has everything to be crowned... the problem that he has is that, he is too aggressive at the 50-50 chances... there he has to make wise decision especially at Mentiri, perhaps he can make another 76 there…”

DRM Golf Championship – 10th Monthly Medal

DRM will be hosting its 2nd Major of the year at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club. Estimated of 30 players will be involved in the championship. To others, this is only a minor golf outing to mingle among friends.
For DRM Golf players, the championship could change their ranking among themselves. Rivalry competitiveness, prize money status, pride and honour, but most of all DRM GOLF are out to “PLAY FOR FUN!”

Aidi’s Return
This championship also bring back the 1st DRM Monthly Medal Champion and co-founder of DRM Golf.
Aidiradiman (Gold Buaya’s brother), has kindly contributed to semi-sponsor for the prizes to be awarded. Beside that, he is also trying to prove that he is still prowling with energy and contention to beat the strong list of players.
Recent practice round with GB and “Hardcore” Saiful, proves to them on his superiority.

DRM Golf Major
Good initiative made by DRM “Loan Shark”, Hj Rahim has also generously contributed DRM Golf with its own DRM Championship Challenge Trophy. Ordered directly from Royal Selangor Pewter, this trophy will be the challenge trophy to be used for 4 DRM Golf Major Next Year. The 4 courses are still to be confirmed.

DRM Fact Tactics - Strange but True

Each of us has our own superstitious habits that we think could help improve our game. It might be just some sort of mental manipulation or just damn weird. Even Tiger Woods wear his lucky cap during most of the Majors (Do you noticed that?). Nonetheless, if it helps the score, JUST DO IT!

So see if u still notices this on the course:
1) The “Wizard”, Shamsul always wear his same bucket hat during golf tournament

2) Aizul always uses his orthodox way of measuring before putting (Apparently, this method works best with an odyssey 2-ball putter – explanation: distance of 1 club length is equivalent to 1 ball on the putter) …still don’t get it? Ask the “Gold Buaya” himself.

3) The “Serial”, Renny never wears long pants and black shoes for golf.

4) “Mad Dog”, Romeo used to wear short pants for golf, but he only wears smart long pants (especially during tournament)

5) “Golf Freak”, Fadle always wear cream pants for most golf tournament.

6) Previously, the “Fairway Artist”, Rahim always wear his lucky red Panaga shirt to play golf

7) After recent performance, “Mr Tactician”, Pg Ahmad will never be seen driving a buggy for good luck charm

DRM Duo shines in PGC

“Real Deal” Rafali and “Gold Buaya” Aizul won the runner up place in each respective categories during Sunday’s Panaga Monthly Medal Tour.

DRM man on form, “Lord of the Putt” Sani, only managed to card a gross score of 98. Also on the field on that day was DRM Footie Gaffa, “Serial” Dzairenny who struggled with a score of 124.

The trio opted to drop their invitation to play for the Topgreen Challenge held in RBA on the same day itself. They made a tactful decision using the PGC tour as a stepping-stone to prepare themselves for the upcoming DRM Major.

GB, played 100, who won this tour several time already also took the opportunity to spend his time with his coach/rival, RD Rafali that day, hoping to get him well prepared for this Saturday’s Major.
"I've been working hard on my swing mechanically so it's a case of just trying to trust it a bit more around the cow grass course which I did well today, and will be playing for the major" said GB, the 2006 DRM Masters winner, who is 5th on the money list.

RD, scored a brilliant 81 gross, was playing in the same pairing with TLOP (Sani) seems determined and full of energy. It seems that the recent interview he had with our editor have pumped up his adrenalin and wants to give a warning to the DRM leaderboard on his current form. He slaughtered TLOP by 17 strokes knowing that it is enough to steal the spotlight from him.

The 'Tiger chip' from greenside rough

Using a fairway wood gives him (and you) more margin for error

Thanks to Tiger Woods and more recently Todd Hamilton, this go-to short shot has gained popularity in the past few years. For good reason: Using fairway wood or hybrid club from just off the green gives you more margin for error.

To play such a little shot with a short iron, you need precise contact to get the distance control you need. A fairway wood requires less precision at impact and reduces the chances of a completely muffed shot.

Address this little shot like a putt. Then make a short, firm stroke, back and through. Your follow-through should be about the same length as your backswing.

The ball will pop out of the grass and start rolling quickly. With some practice, you'll soon be able to gauge just how far the ball will run depending on the length of swing you use.

Real Major Hunt

The “Real Deal”, Rafali says he is ready to answer his critics by winning DRM’s 2nd Major of the year at Pantai Mentiri.
RD, just managed to get the cut (10th place) at last months's DRM Tour but remains winless as a DRMer, and has been taken to task for competing in events on the DRM Tour.
But he said: "I don't really care what people say about my game. It's about my expectations, and I expect to win.
"I'm ready for (a first DRM title) now, and I think it's coming."

RD has one runner-up and three times top 10 finishes in the last 7 months. While frustrated that he still does not have a title, yet he is happy with his consistency considering he still holds DRM Gross record of 76.

He said: “If you look at the overall year I feel the best is yet to come”
"Obviously, I wish I could have won a couple of events. But at least I'm not winning one event and then missing the cut in another.
"I am consistently up there and I'm consistently playing good golf."
RD added he is looking forward to the challenge at Pantai Mentiri after his first look at the course during the week.
"It was 10 degrees hotter and 10 times undulating than my home course (PGC)," he said.
"It's just hard physically because the slope is so steep and beats you up. It feels like someone's holding you down.
"But it's fun out there. I'm used to the length and it makes the golf course what it is."

Wizard Wand Win

“The Greenside Wizard”, Shamsul is aiming to get his first DRM Monthly Medal win next week. The wizard has exploded at the early stage of the season, hitting good 90s and sub 90s gross scores. In spite of his great start, he only managed to grab winnings in the Sponsored Tournament (Aizul Cup and Rahim Cup).

His closest rival during his glory days, “Gold Tee Maniac” is even bemused by his sudden slump but still confident on his capability to win the upcoming event.
The GT maniac gave his opinion during recent interview “Yes, he will win if he can find his ball... in most of the cases, he lost his balls un-necessarily.... so, yes I vote him to be the champion even though the wizard have yet to win the Monthly Medal.... hahahhahahahah....” ending up with a loud burst of laughter.
When our editor confronted the wizard to get his comment regarding the GT maniac’s remarks, he just smiled and walked away.
This win would definitely help his cause on pursuing his challenge to come back in the Top 5 ranking.

The upcoming tour promises to bring out the best of every player, since this will be the 2nd DRM Major of the year. Total purse of $5,000,000 where the champion will scoop $1,100,000.
